The Mitsubishi Jukogyo company began producing the Mitsubishi A5M4 fighter for the Japanese Air Force in 1934. Designed by Jiro Horikoshi the aircraft had a maximum speed of 270 mph (434 km) and had a range of 746 miles (1,200 km). It was 24 ft 10 in (7.56 m) long with a wingspan of 36 ft 1 in (15 m). The aircraft was armed with 2 machine-guns and could carry 132 lb (60 kg) of bombs.
