Eritrea, an area
extending along 670 miles of the southern Red Sea in Africa. The territory
was colonized by Italy in 1882 and became
a base for attacks on neighbouring Ethiopia
in 1895.
In 1941 Eritrea
was occupied by the British
Army and
remained under British control for the rest of the Second
World War.
