Oscar Griswold
was born in the United States in 1886. He joined
the United States Army
and led the XIV Corps that fought at Guadalcana.
This was followed by containing Japanese troops in New Georgia.
In January
1945 Griswold led the XIV Corps in the invasion of the Philippines.
His troops were involved in bitter fighting at Clark Field and Manila
before he took Luzon. Oscar Griswold died in 1954.
