1: Europe in 1914
In the late 1870s people living in Europe began to worry about
the possibility of war. Governments in Europe decided to take
action that they believed would prevent this war from taking
place.
Activity 1: Print out the Chart FW1.
Read about the following countries and then complete the chart.
(a) Britain; (b) France;
(c) Germany; (d) Austria-Hungary;
(e) Russia; (f) Italy;
(g) Turkey.
Activity 2: Print out the Chart
FW2. Read about the following countries and then fill in
the details about the military strength of these countries on
the chart. You will need to read the Triple
Alliance and the Triple Entente
before you do this.

(e) Russia; (f) Turkey.
Activity 3: Look carefully at your completed Chart
