Leslie Jones was born in Aberdare, Wales on 1st July 1911. An inside-forward he played for Aberdare Athletic before joining Cardiff City in 1929. At the time the club was in the Second Division. However, in the 1930-31 season Cardiff was relegated to the Third Division South.

In the 1932-33 season Jones won his first of his eleven international caps for Wales. After appearing in 140 games he was transferred to Coventry City in January 1934. Jones scored 70 goals in 138 games and helped the club win promotion to the Second Division in the 1935-36 season.

Leslie Jones joined Arsenal in November 1937. In his first season he played in 28 league games and helped the club win the First Division championship. He played in another 18 games the following season.

Arsenal lost the use of its ground during the Second World War as Highbury was used as an Air Raid Patrol Centre. Most of Arsenal's first-team joined the Royal Air Force. This included Leslie Jones, Ted Drake, Jack Crayston, Eddie Hapgood, Bernard Joy, Alf Kirchen, Laurie Scott and George Swindon.

After the war Jones was given a free transfer to Swansea Town. He also played for Barry Town and Brighton & Hove Albion (1948-49). Jones was a coach at Arsenal (1949-50) and manager of Scunthorpe United (1950-51).

Leslie Jones died in January 1981.
