Henri Paul Gassier was born in France in 1883. A committed socialist, Gassier began working as a cartoonist for L'Humanite in 1908. His work also appeared in the satrical magazine, Les Hommes du Jour. In 1915 he helped form his own weekly magazine, Le Canard Enchaine.

After returning from the First World War Gassier returned to L'Humanite but left when it became the Communist daily paper in 1926. He joined the Le Journal (1926-39) where Adolf Hitler became a target for his satire. In the post-war period Glassier worked for L'Humanite and Le Canard Enchaine. Henri Paul Gassier died in 1951.
