Ackworth School was founded in 1779 and is now one of the eight Quaker boarding schools in England. At the present time there are over 400 pupils. The life of Ackworth School is based on Quakers' interpretation of Christianity but arrangements are made for children from other denominations and faiths to worship in their own churches. The governing body of the school is the Religious Society of Friends.
