Christ's Hospital School was founded in the City of London by King Edward VI in 1552. Initially there were two sites, one for boys in the City of London, and a second at Hertford, which was the girls' school plus the boys preparatory school. In 1902 the boy's upper and preparatory schools both moved to Horsham in Sussex, and in September 1985 the girls' school also moved to Horsham, thus uniting all elements in one co-educational boarding school. Former students include William Camden, Thomas Barnes, Charles Lamb, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Edmund Blunden.
