Westminster School was originally attached to the Benedictine Abbey at Westminster. It was re-founded by Elizabeth I in 1560. The 40 Queen's scholars were soon outnumbered by boys outside the Foundation. William Camden was appointed headmaster of the school in 1593. Former students include: Robert Southey, Francis Burdett, the Duke of Richmond and John Cam Hobhouse.
