Giacomo Matteotti was born in Italy in 1885. Matteotti, the leader of the United Socialist Party in the Chamber of Deputies, led the campaign against Benito Mussolini and his Fascist Party.
On 10th June 1924, Matteotti disappeared from Rome. His body was found in a shallow grave three days later.
Matteotti's death provoked anti-fascist demonstrations but King Victor Emmanuel III refused to sack Benito Mussolini and reintroduce democracy.
