Jakob Kaiser was born in Germany in 1888. A bookbinder he served on the executive of the Christian Trade Union (1924-1933). A member of the Catholic Centre Party Kaiser was elected to the Reichstag in 1933.
An opponent of Adolf Hitler he worked as an adviser to Carl Goerdeler. He joined the German Resistance and became involved in the planning of the July Plot.
When it became clear that the assassination of Adolf Hitler had been unsuccessful, Kaiser went into hiding and successfully avoided capture.
After the war Kaiser helped establish the Christian Democratic Union and served as a minister in the West German government (1949-57).
Jakob Kaiser died in 1961.
