The Belgae

The Belgae were German and Celtic tribes who inhabited the Rhine estuary, the Low Countries and north-east France. After being defeated by Julius Caesar in the Gallic Wars (58-51 BC), a number of Belgae moved to southern Britain where they played a prominent role in resisting the Roman invasion in 43 AD.
