The Saxons was Germanic tribe that originated in Denmark. It is believed that their name came from their single-edged seax (sword). Under pressure from migrating Franks, the Saxons spread from Denmark to western Europe between the 3rd and 5th centuries. Their name survives in England (Essex and Sussex) and in Germany (Saxony).
