You will need the following materials in this assignment: Castles: Glossary, Caerphilly Castle, Origins of Parliament, Battle of Lewes, Gilbert the Red, Bannockburn, Clares in Ireland, Clares in Wales and Edward II and the Clare Sisters.

(1) Gilbert dc Clare was only nineteen years old when he became
the Earl of Gloucester in 1262. Gilbert had bright red hair and soon became known as the Red Earl. Gilbert inherited large estates in England, Ireland and Wales.
