(2) Explain why King Henry II was angry with Thomas Becket in:

(a) 1163 (paragraphs 7, 8 and 9)

(b) 1164 (paragraph 10)

(c) 1170 (paragraphs 11 and 12)

 

(3) Read paragraphs 6 and 11 in Thomas Becket and study Kentish Manors in 1160. Why do some historians believe that Roger de Clare was involved in the plot to overthrow Thomas Becket?

 

(4) Read paragraph 11 of Thomas Becket and study the Drawing of the Cathedral:

(a) What were the names of the four knights who travelled to Canterbury?

(b) Why did the four knights break into the Great Hall instead of entering by the nave door?

 

(5) Read Edward Grim's account of the death of Thomas Becket and then describe in detail what is happening in sources 36 and 37 in The Medieval World.

 

(6) Read about Edward Grim. Explain why Edward Grim's account is so important in helping historians understand what happened when Becket was killed.
