William FitzStephen was
employed as one of Thomas Becket's clerks and was present when
the archbishop was murdered. Despite what
had happened. Henry
II became friends
with FitzStephen and later made him the sheriff
of Gloucester. After Henry died, FitzStephen
wrote a biography of Thomas
Becket. He also wrote an interesting account of
life in London during the 12th century.
FitzStephen died
in about 1190.
