(Q1) Read Henry II. Put the following events in the order that they took place and explain the connection between them: (a) The Treaty of Westminster; (b) The death of Henry I; (c) The civil war between Stephen and Matilda; (d) The death of Henry I's son William.

(Q2) Select passages from source 7 that are examples of Peter of Blois expressing (i) an opinion (ii) a statement of fact.

(Q3) Henry II spent twenty-one of the thirty-four years of his reign on the continent. Select information from the sources in this unit to explain why Henry II spent so little time in England.

(Q4) Compare the value of sources 1 and 2 to a historian writing a book about the reign of Henry II.

(Q5) Why would historians be interested in finding out the dates when Gerald of Wales, Ralph of Diss and Peter of Blois wrote and published their accounts of Henry II?

(Q6) Select sources from this unit that would be helpful to a historian who wants to find out about Henry II's relationship with the Church. Explain why you have chosen these sources.

(Q7) Give as many reasons as you can why the English people were willing to accept Henry as their king. Explain the different motives people had for supporting him. Use information from the text and the sources in your answer.
