William of Newburgh was
born in Bridlington, Yorkshire in 1135. As a young man he joined the
Augustinian priory at
Newburgh. William's book, History of English
Affairs, covers the period 1066 to 1197. William, unlike
most historians of the time, tried very hard to write unbiased history.
However, as he never left Newburgh priory he had to rely on what visitors
told him. William of Newburgh died in about 1208.
