Wulfstan,
the son of one of Bishop of Worcester's servants, was born in about
1010. After being educated at the abbeys in Evesham and Peterborough
he returned to Worcester and eventually became a monk.
In
1062 Wulstan replaced Aldred of York as Bishop of Worcester. When
William
the Conqueror gained
power in 1066 Wulfstan was one of the few English bishops to support
the new government. As a result he was not purged with other English
bishops between 1070 and 1072.
A
trusted associate of Lanfranc
of Pavia,
Wulstan condemned the uprisings against the Normans
in 1075 and 1088. Wulfstan died in 1095.
