George Bargh was born in Bilsborrough on 27th May 1910. He played non-league football for Garstang before joining Preston North End in 1928.
A creative inside-forward, Bargh made his first appearance in the first-team in a game against West Bromwich Albion in November 1928. He did not become a regular in the side until two years later. He was the club's top scorer in the 1930-31 season when he hit the net 14 times.
By the 1933-34 season Bargh was a member of a a talented squad that included Bill Shankly, George Holdcroft, Robert Kelly, Frank Gallimore, Bill Tremelling, Jimmy Milne, John Pears, John Palethorpe, Henry Lowe, Billy Hough, Frank Beresford and George Fitton.
Two strikers, George Stephenson and Jimmy Dougal also joined the club that season. Preston North End at last achieved promotion to the First Division when they finished runners-up to Grimsby Town. Bargh was injured for most of the season but managed to score four goals in nine appearances.
Bargh left Preston North End in 1935. During his time at the club he scored 42 goals in 142 games. After a brief spell at Sheffield Wednesday he spent two years at Bury where he scored 13 goals in 90 games. He also played for Chesterfield before retiring at the outbreak of the Second World War.
