The Clapham Sect was an Anglican Evangelical group centred around John Venn (1793-1813), rector of the Holy Trinity Church, Clapham. Nicknamed the Saints, the group included two of the leading figures against the slave-trade, Granville Sharp and William Wilberforce. The banker, Henry Thornton and Zachary Macaulay, the father of Thomas Macaulay, were also members.
