Vsevolod
Volin was born in Russia in 1882. While at
St. Petersburg University he joined the Socialist
Revolutionary Party. He was arrested during the 1905
Revolution and deported to Siberia.
He later escaped and emigrated to the United States.
In 1911
Volin became an Anarchist. After the
October Revolution Volin returned to
Russia where he became a leader of the anarcho-syndicalist organization
in Petrograd.
During
the Civil War he moved to the Ukraine
but with the success of the Red Army he was
forced to leave Russia. He lived in Germany
before moving to France where he died in
1945. Volin's libertarian history of the Russian
Revolution, The Unknown Revolution,
was published in French in 1947 and English in 1954.
