The Mickiewicz Battalion was one of the many International Brigades that fought in the Spanish Civil War. Formed in December 1936 it mainly contained volunteers from Poland. The Mickiewicz Battalion eventually became the 4th Battalion of the 13th Brigade and took part in several battles around the city of Madrid.
