Fullers

Britain has a stiff, highly absorbent clay that became known as fuller's earth. There are deposits of it in rocks around Maidstone in Kent, Bala in Wales and near Bath. In the early woollen industry this clay was used by fullers to remove grease from wool fibre. Fuller's earth was considered so important that its export was forbidden until the early 18th century.
