Throckmorton Plot

Francis Throckmorton, the son of the courtier, John Throckmorton, became a fanatical Roman Catholic, and in 1584 became involved with the Spanish in a plot to overthrow Elizabeth and replace her with Mary, Queen of Scots. The plot was uncovered by Francis Walsingham and Throckmorton was captured and executed.
