Noel
Buxton,
the second son of Thomas
Fowell Buxton,
was
born on 9th January 1869. Educated at Harrow
and Trinity College,
Cambridge, he served as Aide-de-Camp to his father when Governor
of South Australia (1895-98).
A member
of the Liberal Party, Buxton unsuccessfully
contested Ipswich in the 1900 General Election.
However, he was successfully elected to represent Whitby in the House
of Commons in June 1905. Buxton was defeated in January 1906 and
unsuccessfully contested North Norfolk in 1910 and
1918.
Buxton
joined the Labour Party and was elected
to represent North Norfolk in the 1922 General
Election. He held the seat until he was created Baron Noel-Buxton
in June 1930.
Noel
Buxton,
chairman of the Anti-Slavery and Aborigines Protection Society, president
of the Save the Children Fund and president of the Miners Welfare
Fund, died on 12th September 1948.
