Bridges
& Tunnels Project
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/TVSbridges.htm
You now have
the task of developing a plan that proposes the building of a bridge
or tunnel between two countries.
(1) Look at
the list below and find the country you have been linked to for this
project. Study a map of Europe and find the best place to build your
bridge or tunnel. Calculate the length of the tunnel or bridge you
will need to build.
(2) You will
now have to decide whether you are going to build a bridge or a tunnel.
It will help you to look at the following web pages before you make
your decision:

and Tunnels

Building
the Channel Tunnel
(3) Your next task is to
discover how much your bridge or tunnel will cost you. The best way
of doing this is to look at the costs per kilometre of two recently
built structures: the Channel Tunnel
and the Oresund Bridge.
(4) You should
now have decided the location and cost of your bridge or tunnel. Your
next task is to produce a report that will enable you to sell your
idea to the people who will provide the money for the project. This
will involve you in explaining the economic benefits of building the
bridge or tunnel. You will also need to explain how the project will
raise revenues. How much will you charge people to use the bridge
or tunnel? How many people will use it? What sort of competition will
it face from other means of transport between the two countries?
