The Rand School of Social Science was established by George Davis Herron and his wife Carrie Rand. The couple were Christian Socialists and members of the American Socialist Party and this was reflected in the teachers it recruited. This included Philip Randolph and Norman Thomas. The institution also published books including the American Labor Year Book. The Rand School was closed in 1956.
