Jean
Baptise Reinhardt was
born in Liberchies, Belgium, in 1910.
Despite losing the use of two fingers on his left hand in a caravan
fire, he developed a distinctive style of guitar playing. Now
known as Django Reinhardt, he moved to France where he joined up with
jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli.
Reinhardt moved to the United States in 1946 where he joined the Duke
Ellington Orchestra. Reinhardt played both acoustic and electric guitar
and influenced a generation of musicians. Django Reinhardt died in
1953.
