In April, 1923, Henry Luce and Briton Hadden,
began publishing Time magazine. The magazine, with its short
articles summarizing important events and issues, was a great success
and by 1927 was selling over 175,000 copies a week.
Henry Luce, who had originally been the
business manager of the magazine, became editor after the death of
Hadden in 1929. The political stance of Time reflected the
conservative views of its owner and was a consistent supporter of
the Republican Party. The magazine
developed a more neutral tome after the death of Luce in 1967. However
in the late 1990's it became a more liberal oriented publication.
