Dan T. Carter is Professor of History at the University of South Carolina and former president of the Southern Historical Association. He is the author of several books including Scottsboro: A Tragedy of the American South (19xx), From George Wallace to Newt Gingrich: Race in the Conservative Counterrevolution, 1963-1994 (19xx) and When the War Was Over: The Failure of Self-Reconstruction in the South (19xx). His biography of George Wallace, The Politics of Rage, was published in 1995.
