Billy Bridgeman went to Marner Street School in Bow with George Hilsdon. Bridgeman signed for West Ham in 1903 and in his first season he scored 4 goals in 18 games. The teenager showed a lot of promise and he became a regular in the 1903-04 season. Syd King signed three other forwards, Charlie Simmons (West Bromwich Albion), Jack Fletcher (Reading), and Christopher Carrick to join Bridgeman in the forward line. By the end of the season West Ham had scored 48 goals in 34 league games. Bridgeman got 11 of these goals. He was less successful in the 1905-06 season and only managed 5 in 28 games and joined his former school pal, George Hilsdon, at Chelsea. After 150 games at Chelsea he finished his career at Southend United.
