George Kay took over the captaincy of West Ham from Billy Cope in 1922. He was therefore the captain of the side that reached the FA Cup Final in 1923. Kay was also the first to play more than 200 games for West Ham. He later managed Southampton. His main success was at Liverpool where he was in charge when the club won the First Division Championship in 1946-7. Kaye was also manager of Liverpool when they were beaten by Arsenal in the 1950 FA Cup Final. George Kay retired in 1954.
