Archie Taylor played local football in Scotland before joining Bolton Wanderers in 1904. He only played three games in the First Division of the Football League before moving to Brentford in the Southern League. In 1906 he joined West Ham United. The left back soon established himself in the first team. Over the next two years he played in 70 league and cup games. in 1909 Taylor moved back to his home town and played for Dundee in the Scottish League. After briefly playing for Falkirk he returned to England where he played for Huddersfield Town. In 1911 he was transferred to Barnsley and the following year he won a FA Cup winners' medal against West Bromwich Albion. After retiring from playing he managed York City.
