Des Horne was born in Durban, South Africa, on 12th December 1939. A talented footballer he moved to England and in December 1956 he signed for Wolves. In 1958 he was a member of the side that won the 1958 FA Youth Cup.
Wolves also won the title in the 1958-59 season with 28 wins in 42 games. The forwards were in great form scoring 110 goals. This was seven more than Manchester United and 22 more than third placed Arsenal. Horne scored three goals in 8 games that season.
In the 1959-60 season the club was beaten into second placed by Burnley. Once again Wolves were the top scorers in the league with 106 goals. This was 21 more than the champions who won the title by only one point. Top scorers were Jimmy Murray (29), Peter Broadbent (14), Norman Deeley (14) and Bobby Mason (13). Des Horne scored nine goals in 26 games that season.
Wolves also won the FA Cup in 1960 with Norman Deeley scoring two of the goals in the 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.
Horne only played in six league games the following season and in March 1961 he was transferred to Blackpool. Horne scored 17 goals in 117 games for his new club before returning to South Africa in 1966 to play for Southern Suburbs.
