Norman Douglas was born in 1868. Educated at Uppingham School he joined the British Foreign Office and worked as a diplomat in Russia and Italy.
In 1901 he published his first book, Unprofessional Tales. This was followed by three travel books, Siren Land (1911), Fountains in the Sand (1912) and Old Calabria (1915).
Douglas only popular success was his novel South Wind (1917). Other books included two novels, They Went (1920) and In the Beginning (1927) and an autobiography, Looking Back (1933).
Norman Douglas died in 1952.
