Bridges
& Tunnels Project
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/TVSbridges.htm
The Bridge
& Tunnel Project is a joint venture between the European
Virtual School, the Teachers
Virtual School and the Association
of Teachers Websites (ATW). It is a cross-curricular project for
students aged 13-14 during eSchola
week (7th-11th May). We hope to have contributions from the teachers
of History, Geography, Science, Design & Technology, English,
Business Studies and Music.
Special emphasis
will be placed on examples of bridges and tunnels that have attempted
to link two countries together. For example, the Severn Bridge and
the Channel Tunnel and the recently opened Malmo-Copenhagen bridge
that now links Sweden and Denmark.
The second
part of the project starting in September, 2001, will attempt to link
certain countries together. The idea being that students would use
the knowledge of existing technology to test out the feasibility of
building a bridge or tunnel to link the two countries together. After
developing their ideas the children in one school will be linked with
a school in the paired country. They would then work on the project
together.
In September,
2001, the students will be to develop a plan of action on how technology
could be used to improve educational links between the two schools.
Their conclusions will then be posted on the European Virtual School
website.
